Dear all,

Taking to a different medium from the fanzine regarding an idea I have about a 'Wikipedia Project'. Well, I say 'an idea I have', but I am sure others have thought and felt similarly! I would like to ask for advice, help and contributors for involvement in changing the Cribs Wikipedia page.

First question, and probably the most important: is this a good idea? Moreover: is it worthwhile? I ask before getting too far ahead of myself and dedicating more hours to this than the fanzine and life and all those things we fill our time with.

I am not someone thinking about 'root and branch' reform and all that, but rather to put a some effort into what is written on the pages associated with the band. I suppose what I mentioned in the fanzine thread recently sums up a few of the ideas:

'The fanzine has a little mention within the discography section for the Cribs on Wikipedia.

Have a look, and see what you think: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cribs#Fanzine

A few people have asked whether anyone would like to help edit and change the Cribs page on the site. Vital in the modern climate, I suppose, and could act as a more informative read for casual Cribs fans, help generate more interest in the band, and act as an useful supplement (and advertisement…) for the ‘zine.'

Now, as a historian learning the 'trade', I was told never to take things on that site as completely valid, and always treat with suspicion. And I suppose I do, and rather find it informative for things beyond music and history and a bit of general reading. Like most people I suppose. What I would like to do is update all the album pages, have a bit more information about them, same with the singles and work from there. Giving people something to read and introduce the world of the Cribs to new faces and give old hands more to work with.

So, has anyone done this kind of thing before? I spoke with Dean from Rhubarb Bomb, and he seems keen to do the same for all things about Wakefield independent music (his 'zine, Long Division, Philophobia Music). I am sure the two will cross over at some point. Little essays, or pieces of text, pictures, statistics, quotes from the band / critics and sources would be the main things needed. I would also encourage use of the pieces in the 'zine, and hope people would be fine in letting bits of their work find use in this manner...

I think for sources, anything at http://wwwthecribsfanzine.wordpress.com/ in addition to the 'zine, the forum itself and the Cribs website for dates of gigs would all be good places.

I will leave everything there, and feel free to let loose in this thread about good and bad points. Like the 'zine, all welcome...

Tonight I bring you 'Glitters Like Gold'...

Anyone interested in helping write about the singles from the first album? I only have 'What About Me' and 'You Were Always the One' on vinyl and CD single, still need 'Another Number' and 'Baby Don't Sweat'.

Will fix up In the Belly of the Brazen Bull this coming week.

Promise to get back to fanzine matters soon!

An allegory between this Wikipedia venture and me exists at the moment:
