The anagrams provide a good challenge, I've enjoyed them. So have others, although I think Laura completed hers without help (except on one!) from her albums!

Everyone get their copes ok? Anybody else like one?

Best,

haha yes I was quite proud of myself I got them all apart from 'NO ONE USE GARY SOUL' which I had to look at track listings for. The rest took me about an hour so not bad going to say there were a fair few. Me and Emma was finding the RYAN SWEAT LOSS hard because all we could think was Baby Don't Sweat and also LEE WENT FLASH all we could think was My Life Flashed Before My Eyes because they had a word from them songs in even though they were wrong. Messed with our heads  They were tricky though good work Clare.

Thanks to all the 'new' people getting in contact, I shall spend some time printing the first issue, and be kind to the presses for more of the second.

Quite happy for more people to get involved, so give writing or reading the fanzine a go!

New Year Issue

Hello all,

I am pleased to announce that the third issue of Kind Words from the Broken Hearted has reached completion, returning from the printing presses in good order. Envelopes withstanding, I have twenty-five copies to send via the Royal Mail, and the corresponding international partners, for those keen on reading about the diverse world of brothers Jarman. Nine contributors have written, compiled, illustrated and photographed pieces for all to read, which continues the thoughts and ideas found in the opening issues one and two.

After sending over one-hundred copies of the initial run, in a physical format, to towns ranging from Montrose, York and Colchester to entities including the Netherlands, Oregon and Japan, the fanzine welcomes prospective readers and writers from anywhere in the world. Sticking to the same price as issue two, the fanzine will cost two pounds for people in the United Kingdom, and the equivalent price to those overseas beyond the metropole or who invested in a copy previously.

I look forward to seeing you on the tour come February and March,

– Christopher Maclachlan

Tremendous fun on the tour, and meeting you all proved a pleasure and privilege.

I think a deadline of 25th March, a day when the clocks 'spring forward', would help for the next issue of the fanzine. Happy to read all work: feel free to submit pieces to chrismaclachlan619@hotmail.co.uk or send a message via @seenshysecrets

Seems the fanzine continues to grow, and might need to 'employ' staff at this rate...

Best wishes

I got 3... Well actually no 2, Emma got the one with my name in and then other 2 took ages to work out so I gave up after that! I'll go back to then when I have more time.

Spring Issue

Dear readers,

A fourth issue of Kind Words from the Broken Hearted has reached completion, returning from the reliable printing presses around Edinburgh Haymarket station on 31st March. I have twenty copies to send via your local postal service, with the issue including nine contributors from the diverse environments of England, Estonia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico and Scotland. Expect short pieces and long essays in addition to poetry, a crossword and a poster, all good works for Cribs fans and independent souls to enjoy.
The Royal Mail has announced changes to pricing on stamp duty. However, prices will stay at the same level for this issue, two pounds for anyone in the United Kingdom, as I would rather have more people involved with reading and the writing aspects of the fanzine than worrying about the ability to break even. The fanzine started without worrying too much about business trivialities, and will continue in this vein: “profit-sharing, I’m past caring”…
I hope to put out a fifth issue in correlation with In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, which has reached the halfway stage. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting some of you on the recent February and March tour, and look forward to reading pieces from ‘experienced hands’ and ‘fresh faces’ alike. All welcome, whatever your ability.

Best wishes, be safe,

– Christopher Maclachlan

Brazen Bull 2012

Dear readers,

Kind Words from the Broken Hearted presents a fifth issue to mark the release of a fifth LP from the Cribs. The album in question, In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, had yet to reach the ears of any contributor, except in 7” releases, music videos and in a live setting. The pieces instead reflect the personal anticipation and expectation of an album readers have waited more than two and a half years to hear. Continuing a commitment to having new contributors, four new names feature in this issue, notwithstanding our subjects for interview: Merrick Green from Hull rockers the Neat, in addition to Gary and Ryan Jarman. The recurring features of the fanzine, including poetry, live reviews, critique and essays, find form in contributions from familiar faces and new favourites.

In the next few weeks, I hope to have a more ‘permanent’ home for the fanzine, instead of riding the good name and bandwidth of the forum, by way of a Wordpress site or something of a similar ilk. Moreover, a few people have enquired about incorporating more appealing and creative design elements into the layout of Kind Words, and will discuss this venture, and other ideas for expanding the ‘zine, in June and July. Having read the previous sentence back, ‘expanding the ‘zine’ relates more to finding a wider audience, increasing distribution and inviting more people to get involved than, for example, literary colonisation or a poorly conceived notion of ‘progress’. Enjoy the album, the fanzine and the upcoming shows.

Best wishes, be safe,

– Christopher Maclachlan

One Year Update

Hello all,

I hope this message finds you well. I write for a few reasons:

i) The fanzine has an address, found at http://thecribsfanzine.wordpress.com/ Martine runs the site from Amsterdam, and as with her work in the fanzine, puts a lot of effort and time on top of ‘harbour queen’ duties. Still in the early stages, and will slowly build up, but I am glad we have somewhere in the great ether of the internet. Also, the fanzine now has ‘assets’ in case of bankruptcy (inevitable) and can go to auction if any of you want to take up Kind Words from the Broken Hearted one day. Moreover, it sounds like we have chosen to avoid tax law in the UK. Another positive.

ii) The fanzine has made a mockery out of grammar and the printing presses for one year now. Happy anniversary / birthday to us! I added up all the accounts (does that surprise any of you regarding ‘accounts’?!) recently and the bankruptcy referred to in (i) might come sooner than we think. I hope we can always verge on the abyss but still keep going! Makes everything seem cool for the hipster readers.

iii) The fanzine has a little mention within the discography section for the Cribs on Wikipedia. Have a look, and see what you think: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cribs#Fanzine A few people have asked whether anyone would like to help edit and change the Cribs page on the site, and will probably start a thread elsewhere on the forum to read views and ascertain interest. Vital in the modern climate, I suppose, and could act as a more informative read for casual Cribs fans, help generate more interest in the band, and act as an useful supplement (and advertisement…) for the ‘zine. Keep your eyes peeled on the forum.

iv) After five issues, people still seem interested to read! So ideas for a new edition (or perhaps two…) lie on the desk and accompany my thoughts on walks. I will not go into specifics, but I hoped to have one out by now, as delayed negotiations with another party to release a ‘split’ issue (yes, I pretend to release the issues similar to how my ideal band would!) have slowed things to a halt. However, things may pick up this week. Also, a prospective seventh has also started. All will become clear in due course, I promise!

v) Always on the look out for essays, reviews, poetry, verse, illustrations and interviews, so feel free to submit work to chrismaclachlan619@hotmail.co.uk or contact @seenshysecrets on twitter.

Hopefully that makes sense to you all.

Keep the faith, up the workers and all that,

- Christopher x
