What's up with the lack of encores? Is this the norm or did I just get unlucky at the Toronto gig? I thought there was a decent vibe that the band was digging.

they just dont apparently (according to the jeffrey lewis comic) its because when they saw def leppard they did like six encores and it they hated the gig so they decided never to do them...

I wish more bands didn't do encores tbh. I really do hate them.

Encores really are a bit pretentious aren't they? If you cheer loud enough the band comes back and play some more. And if you don't cheer loud enough they let the audience wait just a little longer. I never really thought about it up until I realised the Cribs don't do encores. And only after it's been discussed they don't. A good show is a good show. I never missed it with a Cribs gig.

I hate encores! Most bands include them on their setlist, the crowd would have to be amazingly bad for them not to come back on. It all just seems a bit pointless.

i don't really get it either, i've seen bands leave the stage for literally a matter of seconds before running back on.. what's the point?!

yeah, it's annoying when a band leaves their hits for the encore - they'd feel like a bit of a twat if everyone just wandered off and didn't bother sticking around for the encore.

I hate encores too. like homesick alien said they are just so pretentious and pointless cos the band are coming back on anyway.so whats the point in going off. Encores just seem like they're there to massage a bands ego like just to hear the crowd wanting more...even though they know they are coming back on anyway. stupid and pointless. i'm so glad The Cribs don't do them!

i think encores would still be great if they were spontanous and uncommon. but becasue most bands have them as part of their setlist u just expect one which is pointless, they might as well not leave the stage
but like imagine if the cribs did one once at a really mental gig, how honoured would u feel in the audience, they're special if people hardly ever do them, bands of the world should make a pact or something...

sometimes it works. e.g. beastie boys. they went off the stage and did one IN THE CROWD. probably the coolest thing i've ever been part of. i've seen art brut do one once, but that was after every fan was chanting ART BRUT, TOP OF THE POPS! for about 10 minutes and they couldnt actually get out.
