January N.A. tour!!!

Postby romanticrealist on Sun Nov 15, 2009 7:38 am

A Toronto based site suggests -- with a groan-inducing headline -- that there will be American and Canadian shows in January, citing a booking agency which apparently handled the last tour. It has the band listed as available for headlining or support for that month. Two shows listed, the 15th in Toronto and the 29th in... wait for it... merrie old Portland. The Toronto listing has them with Adam Green and The Dead Trees. Can't really guess the tour route apart from going west eventually, but a show in Ann Arbor or Detroit the night after Toronto would be a great start to the year.

EDIT: Emma's link goes to something else, here it is, http://www.nme.com/news/the-cribs/48394
Til I saw the name Ferndale, I almost had a coronary. Michigan has a lot of -dales, so I figured it was a Detroit suburb... sure enough.

RE-EDIT: BTW, the place in Ferndale is not called Magic Box, but Magic Bag. Funny enough, the aborted 2008 tour involved a stop at Detroit's Magic Stick.

Maybe someone can help me approach this problem. See, I want to go to the New York show, but I'm from Jersey and 17. I'll be 18 a week before and get my driver's license a day before, so driving's out. I won't find anyone to go with, The Cribs being under most people's radar's here. I could take the subway, but I've only been to one concert at MSG with my sister last year. I don't own a cell phone and, in short, I just don't think my parents would want me going it alone, nor would I want to. Would it be weird if they came with me? The Oasis crowd had a bunch of squares, but I'd imagine The Cribs are a bit different. Johnny Marr is in his forties and my dad's a big punk fan.So how should I approach my parents about this?

I'm taking my parents to the next Cribs gig I go to, I don't reckon that it's uncool at all, parents were young once too and probably loved going to gigs.

If your dad is a big punk fan he'll love it even. I've seen a punk dad + daughter at the last Thermals show I went to, it was pretty cool, though dad seemed to enjoy it more than she did. Ask him!

Just go, no matter what. You don't know if it might be your last chance to see Johnny in the band, or even the band itself for all anybody knows, and if you love a band that much, any awkward feelings you get are more than trumped by the show itself. You'll be 18, so really there's nothing your parents can legally do (except kick you out the house, maybe). Stick around, some people might join the forum that you could meet up with, represent #cribsforummassive.

The Thermals were at the Cribs gig in Portland lol. There was a old couple there too, they stood behind me, it was like young to older people, it was awesome!

I'm seeing them again in Portland at the Wonder Ballroom on 1/29/2010 Hope its an all ages show, it should be, since it is at the Wonder Ballroom lol.

Ticketmaster = knobheads. Discuss.

Damn, I'm sorry. It's been a while since I had to order through them. Last time I saw The Cribs, the only fee was $1 for ordering directly from the venue by phone. A couple of my friends and I might be roadtripping to Toronto, that show has, IIRC, $6.50 for convenience and $4.50 for "order fees." I'm assuming that's in Canadian dollars, but they don't convert low nowadays. So that's around $30 total. Mere change compared to other bands, I know, but still ridiculous. Ticketweb is a bit less frustrating, only does an order fee.

Bump. It kicks off Wednesday. [Forgive the following vent:] And now I have something Thursday that's gonna make me late for that night's gig, like 20-30 mins into the Dead Trees, hopefully I'll still be able to get up front. FML. Somehow I think there'll be quite a few people who are only there for Adam Green.

If people are there just to see Adam Green they might grab a drink when his set is finished. You'll have a great time :D Enjoy!
