It says that winners will be notified by telephone before May 9th but that seems like a silly amount of time to notify 30 people that they've won! Hopefully e-mails/phone calls will go out this week so we can all get good and bloody excited (Or bad and bloody miserable if you miss out)!

Oh no! is it actually going to be the 9th May? That day I'll be traveling back from the London gig and I can never get signal on the east coast line. Hopefully if (big if) I win and that happens they'd leave a voice mail. Although I am getting an early train back though that day so I can spend it with my boyfriend so hopefully they'll do the ringing in the afternoon when I'm off the train.

Not definite. It just said 'before 09.05.12'. I don't know why they haven't done it already really. Just send out an e-mail!

Gary has this to say about the JD Roots gig in an interview for DIY:

You’re also playing a JD Roots show, for Jack Daniel's, in Wakefield pretty soon (16th May). According to the press release it’s about ‘what makes a band’s hometown special and how it made them the artist they are’. Would you agree?

I think it’s something that we can’t escape. There’s an inescapable element in that we grew up in a small town and that there weren’t really many shows. No one really paid any attention to it; none of the touring bands ever came through there. There was also an element of feeling like everything was all forgotten, and that it was all hopeless. That was what inspired us to start a studio and start playing gigs. I definitely think that’s become an inherent part of our personality and our character: trying to do as much as you can by yourself. I think the fact that Wakefield was somewhat overlooked meant that we had a lot of time to develop and do whatever we wanted. All those things have stuck with us.
But like I said, I’m not particularly ‘regional’. I don’t get too hung up on stuff like that. We definitely wanted to play Wakefield again. We hadn’t played it for quite some as it’s quite difficult for us to play because we can only really play a small venue, which is fun, and which I would like to do, because they don’t have any larger venues, but the problem with playing smaller venues is that they’re not properly equipped to have security or barriers and stuff like that, which unfortunately the promoters always insist on. So, it works out too expensive for the clubs to do it and then they want big deposits for damages and stuff like that. At the end of the day, it’s our responsibility but it’s kind of been impossible for us to play there for a long time and we didn’t want to feel like we were alienated from people. We don’t want to seem like ‘we started touring, and we now we’re never coming back to Wakefield’. That would be lame but unfortunately it’s just been impossible to do it unless we were prepared to pay a load of money to cover all those extra costs. That’s the reason that we took this opportunity, now there’s someone willing to put it on, you know.

Heard back from JD today. Originally had an e-mail saying they were about to make the draw and wanted to confirm my age and D.O.B. Sent one back fairly quickly to find out I'd won the main prize of the 3 tickets, accommodation and travel! Seems they wanted to double check before telling me about the prize but very happy to say the least.

I'd guess they'll get in touch tomorrow or Wednesday for the rest. With them e-mailing me first, I'm guessing they wanted to hand out the largest prize first and to ensure it was going to the right person and that'll they'll sort the other prizes out fairly quickly after.

First of all, congratulations! Welcome to the winners club haha. Secondly, I thought every person who won got 4 tickets for the gig?? I didn't even know they were doing one for travel and accommodation! Haha

Thanks! Yh I heard about one winner getting tickets with accommodation with travel and the tickets but thought it was just for one gig but they came back with;

Grand.

Now, you have won the main prize (didn't want to tell you in case) which is

Tickets, trains and hotel to / for

Twin Atlantic at Glasgow King Tuts on 3rd May (this THURSDAY - sorry, only got the names today)

The Horrors at Southend Chinnerys on 9th May

The Cribs at Wakefield Theatre Royal on 16th May

So, assuming you can make all of those then I need to get on with working out trains and hotels for you.

Can you let me know if you are free for all the shows and I will look into travel and confirm hotel (Twin room) for you and your guest

Rather happy but it is only a pair. Though atm I've been able to get someone to go to The Cribs gig (extremely easily!) but struggling a bit for The Horrors gig. Maybe the prize of 4 tickets would have been better ha. I'm sure someone will fancy it eventually. Really looking forward to it.

Haha that's awesome! Was this directly through the JD Roots website? I won tickets, travel and accommodation to all three through Q magazine

I've just rang up the venue for a bit of information as my tickets for the gig came today! The main points are:

-Capacity is 499;
-JD have only given away 450 or so;
-The seats can not be removed so it will be an all-seated gig but you are allowed to stand where your seat is obviously;
-Seats are unreserved in the sections you have i.e., someone with a ticket for the circle seats can't sit in the stalls;
-It is a ticket only event so he says there will not be a one-in, one-out policy.
-On my ticket it says "Entry only permitted to valid ticket holders. Capacity is limited so arrive early, entry will not be granted if the venue is full, even if you have a ticket." This is a bit of a contradiction in itself because how could you have a ticket and the venue be full if you're only allowed entry with a ticket? The guy was as stumped as me on this one.

So I think I'm going to get there pretty early just to be sure. Also as the seats are unreserved I don't want to end up in row Z of the stalls. Although I am made up that my tickets are in the stalls!

Also for anyone who doesn't know or for those unfortunate this gig will be streamed live on the JD Roots website!

I hope you can watch it again after the gig or someone will be able to record the stream or something!

The live stream will be shown at The Brudenell- I'd rather go to the gig mind!

Yes! One of my friends in Leeds that I asked to enter it for me has won 4 tickets. I'm so excited!!!! (May have a spare ticket as he doesn't even like them)

*Finish work in Manchester city centre at 5, think I should drive or get the train? Worried about not getting there early enough to guarantee entry

I'm glad proper Cribs fans are winning and not people who entered on a whim cause it's free, but I can see a few Leeds-based people being annoyed that they've missed out due to people who have mates who live in Leeds entering on their behalf!

Why would they be annoyed? It doesn't say it's for Yorkshire based people only and 2 of my friends coming entered the competiton and live in Leeds. Plus seeing the Cribs in Wakefield has been on my bucket list for at least 5 years :)

The whole point of the 'Roots' campaign is that people are going to gigs in bands' hometowns and playing infront of their hometown crowds, that is why 80% of winning tickets are going to people with Yorkshire postcodes and that is why you got your mate, who doesn't like the Cribs, to apply on your behalf!

I'd have done the same thing if I didn't live in Leeds and I'm sure everyone here would have too.

I'm just saying that people who live in Yorkshire are going to feel aggrieved that they have missed out because people from other cities have got their mates to apply on their behalf.

Anyway, I'm sure if you finish work at 5pm and get the train over straight away you would be able to get to Wakefield before 7, I can't see it being a problem.
