Not always. Depends if they used the original analogue pressing. Alex knows more about this though.

All this talk might be moot in the end (via Stereogum):
STEREOGUM: Now that the record is about to be mixed, how long is it? I had heard that you guys were making a double record.

JARMAN: It’s the biggest problem that we have right now, and just before you called I was actually fielding a few emails between me and my brother arguing back and forth because we’re mastering on Wednesday so we have to have it fully decided by Wednesday, and we’re really kind of in battle because we’ve got twenty-one tracks now. The reason being is that like I said after Johnny left it was sort of a — it kind of snapped us out of the idea of taking time off and we really just worked very quickly. Once you get working and once things are going well you don’t really feel like capping it just because you’ve got enough tracks, so we kept on working pretty much all of 2011. So we’ve got twenty-one songs now and it’s just about choosing what’s going to go on the record, really, cause this minute we’ve got the record whittled down to fourteen — which sounds kind of long–but it’s going to be 45 minutes and fourteen tracks. That leaves us like seven tracks left. There’s actually a couple more that we haven’t recorded yet either, so we’re just gonna keep recording, I think. We’re just gonna keep going. We’re probably not gonna do a double album, because we’ve always believed that you should never give people too much. You should always let people get to the end of the record and be like “Oh…is it over already?” So we’re probably gonna try to put another record out — maybe try and release two records next year? That’s kind of the idea so far. We’ve got enough songs, but we’re really enjoying writing and recording. Usually after making the record I’m kind of burnt out, but right now I really feel excited. That’s why I’m in the basement right now, that’s where I do my demos. I’m still working on stuff.

...okay, this is where an edit function would be useful, I missed the bit about touring and the interview looks to have been in the can for a bit. So at ~45 minutes, not really a double album in the traditional sense, but long enough to cut loud on two discs (still thinking Wichita meant three sides + 4th etched).

Just incase any of you are as sad and impatient as me this is now available to pre-order on iTunes so you can listen to clips of the tracks. And yeah, Back To The Bolthole sounds absolutely fucking amazing.

I'm sorry, but when an album is pressed on 3, 4 or even 6 sides (I have an LP like that) on vinyl, that doesn't make it a double album. Back in the days when you couldn't even think of the possibility of downloading an album, a double album was an album that long, it had to be pressed on two LPs or two cassettes. When an album is pressed on more discs nowadays, they do it for quality or whatever. It's still 'an album', not 'a double album'. I'm old...

Cheers for this, I'm loving all these interviews lately! I dunno how but they always seem to have something new to offer. If it was me I'd probably just end up saying the exact same thing every time! Wichita did say that the new album would be 3 sides and the 4th side etched, I think it's on the website or it may have been on an e-mail!

I've made a promise to myself to only listen to the songs I have already heard cause I really don't want to be spoiled with the others. Bolthole does sound amazing I really can't wait to play it on full volume! And Anna sounds really good too, reminds me of the first album production wise but then you can tell they've progressed since then at the same time. It's so rare for me to get this excited over a new album, I really can't wait at all.

I always refer them as double LPs, never double albums. (I'm not old) haha

If I'm honest I just listened to 5/10 seconds of each (with the exception of Bolthole) to ease my curiosity! Dunno how long that will last though...
I do like that there's *another* bonus track though!

I haven't listened to all of them, just Bolthole, Anna and I HAD to sate my curiosity about Arena Rock Encore, and I was right, it's ace :) I was singing along to Anna on first listen, anything with lyrics that memorable can only be good.

"Spread across four sides of 180g vinyl, with an etching on the 4th side." Which makes it sound like there will be music on the 4th (which is technically possible, but rarely done). Sure it'll be fine.

I'm sure I read somewhere else that it will have 3 sides and the 4th side is reserved for an etching

I can't find it now. Typical. Maybe I just read what you posted and assumed that's what it meant. I just can't see any way that there will be music on that 4th side because the last 4 tracks are that epic 15 minute long thing and it just wouldn't make any sense to split them up
