More likely they'll oversell it because the tickets are free, therefore people might be less likely to turn up, like they do with TV and radio recordings. Actually, maybe it is being filmed for TV, I wouldn't be wholly surprised.

I just want to know one thing, this thread has been named "The Cribs to play 10th Anniversay gig in Wakefield" but this is part of series of gigs in search of the best small venue in the UK, sponsored by JD. It doesn't make it less great but where does it say "The Cribs to play 10th Anniversay gig in Wakefield"?

That's what it was originally being touted as when it was supposed to be at Unity Hall but I suppose they have just linked up with the 'best small venue' label for the extra publicity or whatever. Rhubarb Bomb still labelled it as the 10th Anniversary gig this morning though so I stuck with it

The theatre isnn't excactly a small venue thought, I would of thought they'd of chosen the hop or gone to brudenell.

The small venues have to be under 500. I know this has 499.

Why would they oversell. What if people turned up from far away with ticket only to be told to go home. Be unfair.

Just wait till NME announce how to enter tomorrow, loads will enter.
Maybe just this link is for mainly local and with nme anyone can enter,

The Hop is far too small, The Brudenell is in Leeds, the event is called Jd Roots artist taking it back to where they started,

I've had just about enough of your anti-panini bias, Millz.

Having looked at those post codes I have friends in Leeds and Wakefield + family in Huddersfield so I'm going to make everyone enter for me. If I get more than 2 tickets I'll do some kind of random draw on here.

EDIT- just seen you win 4 tickets, I know I'll only use 2 of them regardless.

DOUBLE EDIT- keeping my hopes up on winning this and will be driving from Manchester if anyone wants a lift nearer the time!

The NME are giving away tickets via postcode targeted ballot only. So locals will get the chance to see them.

You know, I think it's nice that it's locals only because that's the whole idea behind the shows, small venues are important especially for the smaller towns. I spoke to a girl from Wakefield at the Leeds gig in March and she told me she was so happy to have gotten a ticket for this off of eBay as she wasn't able to get one the regular way. Here I was, from overseas, but a local fan wasn't able to get a ticket. Not that I would have let her have mine or something but still, it was weird. I hope she gets one for this Wakefield show.

Little piece from their Facebook:

So as some of you may realise 2012 marks 10 years of The Cribs being in existence, and to celebrate we will be playing a gig back in Wakefield almost 10 years to the day that we played our first ever show. We originally wanted to play the exact same venue we started in, Mcdermott's nightclub, but as that is now a strip bar it didn't seem very feasible!
We have chosen Wakefield Opera house, as it's a great looking venue, and we have all wanted to play there for some time. I'm sure anyone familiar with the city will know it well and the only reason we haven't ever played there in the past is they have a decibel limit, which is no good for a live band, BUT the Mayor of Wakefield has removed the limit for one night only - May 16th 2012 so you can guarantee it will be a night to remember.
Join us in celebrating 10 lost years we wouldn't change for a thing, and one of the most unlikely milestones ever!

The only problem I can see is the fact that loads of people will be getting their mates who have Yorkshire postcodes to apply for them which would dilute it slightly. Even if you need to bring proof of address or the person who applied for tickets has to be present, I can't imagine that they would then turn people away who don't actually live in these postcodes because there'd be no time to get other people to turn up. Although it did say something strange in the T&Cs about how they're going to employ a one in, one out rule. I just hope I'm lucky enough to win.

The best thing I've ever won was a Flintstones orange drink and a packet of Chewits for doing the best macarena at a kiddies' Christmas party. But enough about last Christmas... (ok, I was 10)
My sister (LS2 postcode, I think) has entered for me, so fingers crossed. It says the tickets are posted out, so I suspect the person who wins doesn't necessarily need to be there; the door staff won't have time to check everyone's ID and the batches of tickets would probably be split up anyway between people arriving at different times.

Hello

Has anyone else heard the rumour that a band called Retarded Fish are the local support at the Theatre gig on the 16th? They were mentioned by Ryan on the Lamacq show on Thursday and my sisters friend heard something being said in the Inns in Wakefield the other night about it. Never heard of them before?
