You've just contradicted yourself right there Clare. If you say that some of the album was recorded with two guitars then how do you expect them to play the tracks live with only one guitar? hense why it's logical to bring Dave in live.

Yeah but the venues were much smaller in the US. I really don't see your issue it's just silly,

Yes but before ITI they didn't have two guitar parts to play...

Yeah but that was before the songs from ITI. The reason Dave started playing with them was so that that songs didn't sound compromised live withut the extra guitar. And even though obviously now they are playing more and more of the new songs live, but they still play songs off ITI and Ryan can't play his parts and Johnny's parts at the same time it would be impossible unless he sprouted an extra pair of arms.

But I still don't understand why you are going on about this, I don't recall them saying they were gonna play as a 3 piece and if they did what does it matter? They obviously feel that they need Dave to play over here as I'm assuming they've played smaller venues in the US

Haha same here it keeps popping into my head still and I keep laughing it's a brilliant saying! Think I'll have to start using it instead of making a mountain out of a mole hill.

The way I see it, the second guitar adds more depth.
As Johnny once said "What sounds better than electric guitar? 2 electric guitars!"

At the end of the day, the ITI songs need 2 guitarists (trust me, I can barely play 1 of the two parts, nevermind them both at the same time! and whilst Ryan is an incredible guitarist, he's never going to find it easy to flesh out a song with two guitar parts on his own).

just relax and enjoy it, it's not like it's a different fourth member, just a live guitarist. and he keeps out of the way!
