Eat Me & Glandular Fever Got the Best of Me

Postby Lager on Mon May 14, 2012 12:57 pm

In the excitement of the new album it seems everyone forgot to talk about these two bonus songs! What does everyone think? I really like them both but they're definitely B-sides in the sense that they would stick out a bit on the album as they don't really flow with the rest of the record.

I really like the lyrics on Glandular Fever but I'm struggling to hear a few of the lyrics in Eat Me, anyone want to have a go at transcribing them? I'll post up what I've got so far later on today.

Yeah I like 'em both! The singing on Glandular Fever is very Watch Trick. Can't be bad.
I still feel a bit uneasy listening to Eat Me though, not that it's stopped me listening to it loads...

I love these songs too! Though, having said that, I can't think of a single Cribs song I dislike. I'll have a go at transcribing the Eat Me lyrics, there may be some holes, here goes:

Eat me, I'll return to Leeds,
Eat me, I'm a man of taste,
I'm faded in your point of view, no manners? you make me puke.
So easy, to release endorphines, like the medic, every single portion,
I thought it, a reptilian brain,
A soulmate, with holes like me

So eat me, don't have the time to waste
eat me, I'm a man of taste,
I'm faded in your point of view, no manners

I'm a dog-bone, like a piece of meat, so eat me cos I still believe,
All of the cliches and all of the hate- serve this to me on a plate,
The walk home, the faded plot, the long life, the bathroom ????,
pupils dilated, I'm losing the light, seeing things in black and white.
Black and white.

So eat me, cos I returned to Leeds,
So eat me, I'm a man of taste,
I'm faded in your point of view, no manners? Oh, You make me puke!
So eat me and you'll survive the winter, and we'll start a new life in the hall of mirrors.

I thought it, a reptilian brain, no manners,
I'm a dog-bone, I'm a piece of meat,
So eat me, cos I still believe,
All of the cliches and all of the hate- serve this to me on a plate,
The walk home, the faded plot, the long life, the bathroom ????
pupils dilated I'm losing the light, seeing things in black and white.
Black and white.

Well, that's what I've been singing all this time, anyway!

It was half my life ago,
I was drinking out in the snow,
and the next day I was weak as a kitty,
Glandular fever got the best of me.

I had my first real girlfriend,
It felt so nice to be in love again,
Maybe that's why I got the kissing disease?
Glandular fever got the best of me.

Sleeping cos there's nothing else to do,
At least I didn't have to go to school, ah no
Yeah, I was listening to Pinkerton,
Mind-sweeping round all the pubs,
It was a whole new way of life to me,
then glandular fever got the best of me.

It was half my life ago, I'd been drinking out in the snow,
and now its left me with the curse of apathy.
Glandular fever got the best of me.

I've edited to your lyrics with what I think the lyrics are. I don't think he says 'return/returned to Leeds' but I can't pick up that line at all so you may be right. To me the line in the chorus sounds like 'bathroom stalls' but again it's faint so I may be wrong. I can't make my mind up on can/micro manage either!

Yeah, I doubt it is 'return to Leeds' as it doesn't really fit with the theme or rest of the lyrics, but it's the only thing I can hear! Good call on bathroom stalls- that must be it. Also no idea what is said after 'endorphines'.

Absolutely love how Eat Me sounds I love the raw energy and passion of it and the guitar parts are just SO SO good! I instantly loved it first time I heard it Although Like Chloe it is pretty difficult listening to some of the lyrics.

As for Glandular Fever Got The Best Of Me that one took me a few listens but it's definitely been a grower really like that one too now. It sounds early Cribsy which is never a bad thing :)

It took me a few listens with Glandular Fever too.
Everytime I hear it I think it sounds like a fucked up nursery rhyme, especially the start! Just me?

 . Must admit I did start thinking of nursery rhymes when I first heard it. I see what you mean about the start.

I can´t stop listening to Eat me, I find it absolutely amazing! It´s the strangest song by the Jarmans up to date...! The funky part brings to my mind a violently mutilated version of "Barbarism begins at home" by The Smiths with darkened 'Marr'esque multi-layered guitars. The absolute highlight of the song is the chorus: the condensed guitar ruckus in the right channel destroy your head while the rest of the song tries to develop in the left channel struggling to be heard over the wall of noise trying to crush it. It reminds of the line in "Glitters like gold": "My mind will always fight me with sides claiming victory". Are the lyrics related to Ryan´s problem with food?

I think the first line is;

Eat me, I've got time to waste

And either

I can manage/I can't manage (not micro manage)

Can't make out the 'bathroom stalls' bit.

Love this song, i'd love to hear it live! Really catchy.
